A New Contoured Diaphragm For Hormone-free Contraception

Many women want natural and safe contraception - without hormones! With the new Caya® Diaphragm, they can use safe, hormone-free and self-determined contraception when they need it.

The Caya® is inserted into the vagina before sexual intercourse. It covers the cervix completely and is located between the posterior vaginal vault and the niche on the pubic bone. During and after sexual intercourse, the Caya® prevents sperm from entering the uterus. After intercourse, the Caya® diaphragm must remain in the vagina for at least 6 hours.

One Size Fits Most Women

Caya is a single-size contraceptive barrier device designed to fit a wide range of women (80%). It is easy to use and offers discreet contraceptive protection.

Caya: A New-Age Diaphragm

Caya is the modern take on traditional diaphragms: the old fashion yet effective birth control method featuring a circular silicon dome inserted into the vaginal canal before intercourse to block sperm from entering the cervix.

There was a time when diaphragms were the most popular birth control available (think safe, effective, discreet birth control that is comfortable for both partners and easy enough to use.) But the advent of hormonal birth control and IUDs, coupled with the rise of the powerful pharmaceutical industry, pushed diaphragms into oblivion.

For some, the diaphragm retained its appeal. A growing number of women adamantly refuse to subject themselves to the myriad of side effects and health risks of hormonal birth control. Another under-represented portion of women has no choice but to avoid hormones for medical reasons.

The Caya diaphragm (called SLICs diaphragm during testing stages) created a new-age diaphragm revolution. Caya re-envisioned a perfect diaphragm, eliminating common complaints of difficulty removing the device and the need for extremely precise sizing. The new Caya diaphragm is easier to use, more comfortable, and anatomically designed to fit a wide range of women.

Single Size Revolution

There are seven typical diaphragm sizes, and when using a traditional diaphragm, a precise fitting is essential to effective use. Using the wrong size diaphragm results in drastically less effective contraception. The fact that diaphragm size changes when you gain or lose weight, give birth, or go through other vaginal procedures further complicates the process of ensuring you are using the correct size device.

The Caya diaphragm replaces this difficult sizing system with one single size device. Caya is not a one size fits all diaphragm. Rather, once confirming you fall within the size range of 65mm to 80mm, you can use Caya without worrying about frequent refitting.

About 80% of women fit into the range of sizes that are compatible with Caya. Women who do not fit in this range must use either a traditional diaphragm or a cervical cap.

For women who are cannot find a health practitioner to fit them for a diaphragm or a Caya diaphragm, FemCap cervical cap is the only option that does not need to be sized at all.

Upgraded Design

The Caya diaphragm was completely redesigned to make an easier to use, more comfortable, and more anatomically accurate diaphragm.

Flexible Rim: Breakthroughs in design and technology resulted in a contoured outer rim that conforms more accurately to the vaginal canal. The rim is light and easy to fold for insertion, yet flexible and strong enough to provide a secure fit.

Grip Dimples: Raised dots the sides of the Caya rim guide you towards holding the diaphragm in your hand so that with just the slightest bit of pressure it shapes itself into a narrow, tampon-like cylinder shape. The two grooves that are created within the silicone when the Caya is folded hold the contraceptive gel. This allows for both the Caya and the gel to easily slip into the vagina.

Purple Silicone Cup: The silicone cup is highly durable while still being unbelievably thin and almost silky, It is comfortable and almost always completely undiscernable during intercourse. And of course, the purple color is way more appealing than the classic medical white.

Removal Dome: Caya incorporates a small dome at the front of the device that serves as a hook for easier to removal. This is a huge upgrade on traditional diaphragms, where users often struggled get a secure grip and comfortably remove the diaphragm.

Increased Accessibility

The reality is that many doctors are not knowledgeable about the importance of choosing non-hormonal birth control, and do not encourage diaphragm use.

Add that to previous more difficult to insert diaphragms, and many women were not confident in their ability to use a diaphragm successfully. But in controlled studies, Caya has a very high rate of unaided correct insertion.

Because correct use greatly impacts the contraceptive efficiency of diaphragms, Caya's ease of use is a huge victory for natural birth control and barrier contraception. Caya should increase the number of women who are confident in replacing their hormonal birth control with this all natural, highly effective, side effect free birth control alternative.

Important Notes

The Caya® Diaphragm does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

The Caya diaphragm should not be used in cases of strong lowering/prolapse of the pelvic floor/uterus

Caya in the USA can be ordered from here.

FAQs

How safe is the Caya® diaphragm?

No contraceptive method can guarantee 100% safety from an unwanted pregnancy. The Caya® diaphragm is as safe as the classic diaphragm. The more often you use the Caya® diaphragm, the more confident you will become in using this contraceptive method and the more safety this method will offer you.

How do I know that the Caya® is inserted correctly and fits?

Use your longest finger (usually the middle finger) to verify the correct position of the diaphragm. Check whether the cup covers the cervix and the removal dome is located securely behind your pubic bone. If this is the case, you are well protected.

Why does the Caya® diaphragm have to remain in the vaginia for 6 hours after intercourse?

Leaving Caya® in place for 6 hours will help ensure that the sperm are inactivated by the contraceptive gel that you used with the Caya® diaphragm. This will help prevent unwanted pregnancy.

What types of spermicide or contraceptive gel can I use with Caya?

We recommend ContraGel or Caya Gel which are both natural products and also vegan!

Can my partner feel Caya while we’re having sex?

Not likely. The dome of the Caya diaphragm is soft, like your cervix, and so it feels natural. In rare cases, the partner may feel the rim of the diaphragm, but the majority of men reported no change in their experience.

Does Caya affect my libido or desire for sex?

No. Because Caya is hormone free, it will not affect how you feel about having sex. The moment of intimacy shouldn’t be interrupted by use either, as insertion can be done up to two hours ahead of sex, and Caya needs to be left in for 6 hours after sex.

Can I have sex more than once after inserting Caya?

Yes, Caya will remain in position if you have sex more than once after inserting. You will have to apply additional spermicide or gel using an applicator (without taking out the Caya diaphragm). You will need to leave Caya in for 6 hours after your partner’s last ejaculation to ensure the sperm are inactive.

For how long can I use the Caya® diaphragm before replacing?

The Caya® diaphragm can be used up to 2 years after the first use before replacement unless Caya® becomes damaged or in cases of vaginal infection.

Will the Caya diaphragm really last 2 years?

Two years from the first use. After 2 years, the nylon ring inside Caya loses its “bounce back,” which can make it less effective. We recommend you write the date of first-use on the box, or put a note in your calendar to order a new one earlier than 2 years from the first-use date. Any Caya diaphragm older than 2 years, no matter how often it was used, should be discarded.

Can I use additional lubricants or condoms with Caya?

In addition to the spermicide, you can use water-soluble lubricants to combat dryness, and condoms to guard against sexually transmitted disease. Be sure the lubricant is not silicone oil based, as that can damage Caya. However, using condoms with a small amount of silicone oil will not damage Caya.

How do I properly clean my Caya diaphragm?

After use, simply wash Caya by hand with soap and warm water, and let it air dry. Any mild bathroom soap will work. Even if the Caya diaphragm drops in the toilet, or on the floor, warm soap and water is all that is needed. Do not boil it in water.

What’s the difference between “perfect use” and “typical use” of Caya with regard to preventing pregnancy?

"Typical use" is when usage is not consistent or always correct, whereas "perfect use" refers to consistent and always correct usage. For the Caya, this includes proper insertion, using a spermicidal or contraceptive gel, and leaving the Caya in for at least 6 hours after sex each and every time.

What if Caya shifts or comes out during intercourse?

Slight shifting is normal due to the contoured shape. However, if it comes out during sex it’s likely not been inserted properly. Re-insert the Caya diaphragm after applying more contraceptive gel. If it comes out after your partner has ejaculated, it’s best to visit your healthcare provider (within 72 hours) to discuss emergency contraception options.

I can’t feel the Caya diaphragm inside me, is that normal?

Neither you nor your partner are likely to feel it inside, covering your cervix. However, you should be able to feel it with your finger to ensure it’s in the right place, covering your cervix. If you’re concerned with the fit, you can take it into your healthcare provider to ensure the fit.

Can Caya break or tear?

Yes, but this is unusual. If you notice that your Caya is damaged in some way, especially after sex, it’s best to visit your healthcare provider (within 72 hours) to discuss emergency contraception options. A torn or damaged Caya diaphragm should be replaced.

Can I use Caya as a menstrual cup?

No. Caya is a form of contraception, and is not designed to manage your period.

Can I swim, bathe, or get in a hot tub with Caya inserted?

Yes. You can swim, bathe, or relax in a hot tub before or after the Caya is inserted.

What if I experienced discomfort or pain, or bleeding, when using Caya or when I removed it? Or I suspect I have a vaginal infection?

Please contact your health provider. It may be an indication that something else is wrong, such as having a reaction to the spermicide. If you do have a vaginal infection, it’s best to replace your Caya diaphragm after your treatment ends.

What do I do if I leave the Caya diaphragm inside me for more than 24 hours?

Wearing the Caya diaphragm for more than 24 hours can promote bacterial growth, which can lead to infection and Toxic Shock Syndrome (very rare). We recommend contacting your healthcare provider to see if an examination is necessary.

Do I need to see a healthcare provider to ensure Caya fits/works for me?

No. Caya is one size fits most however, if you have concerns about Caya fitting you or if you are inserting it correctly, you can meet with your healthcare provider. If you know of any reproductive concerns or abnormalities that might prevent you from using Caya—or using it correctly—it's best to meet with your provider first. If you are having trouble finding a provider please give Caya a call or message and we can help.
